CVR(T) - Upgrade and Support
OVIK has a unique CVR(T) support and upgrade capability. From supply of original spares to development of CVR(T) based concept vehicles like MEERKAT - OVIK has the expertise, knowledge and experience to provide a fully comprehensive CVR(T) support, upgrade and development service.
DIESELISATION
The vast majority of CVR(T) were produced with a Jaguar J60 4.2 lt petrol power plant. On the modern battlefield petrol is less than desirable due both to its volatile nature and to modern defence logistics which normally dictate a single fuel (Diesel) policy for all vehicles and plant.
OVIK is one of only two companies worldwide to have successfully re-engined CVR(T) with a Cummins diesel powerplant. From 4.5lt to 5.9lt and up to 6.7lt, OVIK can re-engine CVR(T) according to customer requirements. Developed to beyond UK MoD standard the OVIK dieselisation package is cost effective and extremely reliable.
SYSTEMS UPGRADE
In addition to dieselisation, OVIK can upgrade all systems to improve survivability, mobility and lethality

CVR(T) UPGRADES AND DIESELISATION

SABRE CVR(T) in the OVIK workshops with original J60 petrol engine and transmission stripped out, undergoing full interior hull inspection prior to refit of new Cummins 5.9 6BTA diesel powerplant and upgraded transmission. OVIK's CVR(T) dieselisation package is robust and reliable, transforming the performance, efficiency and safety of CVR(T).
A diesel upgrade forms the basis of any CVR(T) life extension refit. The OVIK team has extensive knowledge of CVR(T) gained from military service experience and from within industry. Members of our team have been involved with CVR(T) since the early 1980's with both ALVIS and UK MOD dieselisation upgrade experience.
HISTORY - CVR(T) has served with distinction around the world for nearly four decades. A main-stay of the British Army, the platform has notched up considerable operational experience from the Falklands War to the Gulf, the Balkans and Afghanistan. Although a number of distinct variants exist, the underpinnings of all CVR(T) variants are fundamentally identical.
CURRENT CVR(T) FLEET STATUS - For various reasons, many of the CVR(T) fleets around the world have fallen or are gradually falling into disrepair. A lack of readily available spares, technical training and support and a general lack of investment together with a convoluted supply system all playing a part. Moreover, in its original build standard the platform is becoming increasingly obsolescent. The original petrol engine is less than optimal for a combat vehicle due to the volatility of the fuel and the burden petrol supply places on the logistical chain, whilst original sighting systems, night vision equipment, electronics and protection are all now outdated.
21st CENTURY RELEVANCE - Based around an extremely lightweight, armoured aluminium hull the CVR(T) was at the forefront of armoured vehicle technology when it was first fielded in the early 1970's. With the right upgrade package the CVR(T) armoured hull, running gear and weaponry remain extremely relevant in the 21st Century. Upgraded as a lightweight tank, a recconnaisance asset, a troop carrier, command vehicle, ambulance or engineer / recovery vehicle with excellent strategic, operational and tactical mobility, good levels of protection and lethality and with significant cross-fleet component commonality, the CVR(T) ramains virtually peerless in the 21st century.
CVR(T) UPGRADE - Given the continuing relevance of the base CVR(T) platform the upgrade of existing vehicles into fully functional 21st century combat vehicles is an extremely cost-effective way to extend the vehicle's capability for many more decades. At OVIK we are expert at the full range of potential upgrades for CVR(T) across the mobility, survivability and lethality functions.
Dieselisation - this forms the basis for any CVR(T) upgrade programme.
Upgraded transmission - main gearbox and final drives - specification will depend on engine output power / torge and overall vehicle weight.
Improved weaponry - power traverse, elevation and main armament stabilisation are all possible options.
Improved weapon sights - modern fourth-generation image intensifying and thermal imagery weapon sights are options for customers to consider.
Fume extractors - main armaments produce toxic fumes. CVR(T) has never had an efficient fume extraction system. OVIK's own fume extraction system is extremely effective and reliable.
Seating - Improved ergonomic and mine blast mitigating seating
Vehicle electronics - as part of any upgrade OVIK will recommend a full electronic system replacement / upgrade including high output alternators for an increased power budget to cope with modern communications ane electronic countermeasures equipment.
Driver's systems - full day / night driver's thermal optical systems for 24 hour, all-weather operations.
Improved Armour - upgraded under-body and side applique armour. This is a fundamental survivability improvement. Increased protection always equates to increased weight and as such will dictate overal engine and transmission selection.
Improved internal intercom system
Integrated tactical communications systems
Improved sprockets and tracks
Upgraded suspension systems
The above list is not exhaustive - but provides an outline of the system upgrades available. Full upgrades are designed to cater to the customer's operational requirement, technical competence and budgetary constraints.
Existing fleets can be upgraded and re-lifed at a tiny fraction of the cost of an equivalent, contemporary combat system.

Original Jaguar J60 engine and David Brown TN15 transmission are removed from the hull along with fuel system, fuel tanks, instrumentation, final drives, air filtration and full cooling system.
The hull is inspected to full UK MOD standards and repaired according to approved repair schemes where necessary.

New TN15E Gearbox
Brand new Cummins powerplant replaces the original petrol unit. New or upgraded TN15E transmission is installed with new couplings. New NAR upgraded cooling systems are integrated as part of the full automotive upgrade. Final drives are either refubsihed or upgraded to STORMER standard as dictated by engine, transmission and vehicle final GVW.

The OVIK diesel capability extension programme transforms the automotives of an existing, original standard CVR(T) - any variant - into a highly robust, efficient and powerful 21st century system.
