OVIK Manufacture

DESIGN - PROTOTYPE - MANUFACTURE

OVIK is primarily a design, prototyping and test house.  On the manufacturing side of the business our speciality is the ability rapidly to produce working prototypes.  In order to achieve this we maintain a small, experienced and highly professional team of designers, engineers, mechanics and fabricators / coachbuilders / welders.  This helps us to keep our overheads down; savings we pass on to our customers - helping us maintain an extremely competitive edge.

Whether it's a project designed and manufactured from the ground up, a modification, an upgrade or integration of specialist equipment, OVIK will be able to provide you with a rapid feasibility assessment and accurate costings.

Strategic Partnering & Joint Ventures

Strategic Partnering - Case Study

MEERKAT - Super Light Tracked Vehicle.  No one company can provide all the skills necessary to produce a concept vehicle such as MEERKAT. To undertake a project of this magnitude in such a short space of time requires great inter-company liaison and flexibility brought about through partnering.  Some of the companies included in producing MEERKAT include:

David Brown Gear Systems Ltd, Diehl Remscheid, SAAB Barracuda, Cummins, THALES, Kongsberg, Centa Transmissions Ltd, Lightning Aerospace Ltd, NAR Group Ltd, Rockford Components Ltd, Pirtek Ltd, AMTEC Coatings Ltd, MRF Fabrications Ltd, 3D CnC Ltd, Allfix Ltd, ABBA Commercials Ltd, OVIKOM Ltd, Vector Developments Limited, Cook Defence Systems.

Partnerships for Performance

If there are time constraints on manufacture we have the ability to produce limited batch runs in-house, typically up to six vehicles can be produced concurrently. However, for larger batch runs, especially if there is severe time pressure we have forged a number of strategic partnerships which allows us to utilise the industrial capability of partner companies to produce vehicles to our designs, in large numbers, very quickly.

OVIK works with a number of strategic partners, ABBA Commercials being our main partner along with others such as AISH Technologies, NORCO GRP, Mould CAM, Fire Tech, Rockford, David Brown etc etc.

Joint Ventures

The OVIK Joint Venture with ABBA Commercials to produce PANGOLIN in large numbers in a very short space of time is a classic example of strategic partnering. Two companies with complimentary skills and capabilities forming a solid and enduring partnership in order to establish a commercial and industrial edge.

ABBA's main business is the production of large vehicles for the construction industry. They operate two factories with a skilled work force in the order of eighty personnel. They possess the tooling, manpower and systems to take on designs and produce them at rapid pace. The OVIK ABBA partnership works extremely well with OVIK designing concepts and prototyping and ABBA producing the production drawings and running the assembly line. ABBA's own in-house designers add significant input to designs in order to ensure that they can be replicated and produced on ABBAs extensive industrial tooling.

In many cases production is actually split between OVIK and partner companies; for example OVIK often takes on all automotive work, suspension, transmissions and engines etc - leaving high output body production to partners or sub contractors. Often automotive work and bodies can be produced simultaneously - in different locations - with OVIK managing the ultimate integration of all component parts and then carrying out full quality assurance, testing and certification prior to final delivery.

To possess ALL the skills and trades necessary to build a broad range of special vehicles in-house would stand to increase overheads significantly - which ultimately pushes costs and thus prices up. We aim always to avoid a business model which increases costs to our customers and as such we will continue to develop as a design, prototype and test house with limited in-house manufacturing capability but with a network of excellent and trusted partners each of whom bring a range of skills and capabilities to the table.

MEERKAT - Super Light Tracked Vehicle

MEERKAT was produced using OVIK rapid prototyping techniques.  The vehicles stands as an excellent example of OVIK's ability rapidly to conceptualise and prototype a new vehicle concept. MEERKAT was only made possible through the exceptional levels of support we enjoy from a raft of first-class partners and contractors.

PANGOLIN Armoured POV

PANGOLIN was built as a joint venture between OVIK and ABBA Commercials. Initial rapid prototyping was carried out followed by detailed reverse engineered CAD designs.  The whole design was then productionised with ABBA taking on all armouring and body assembly and OVIK leading on the automotive, brakes, suspension, trials, testing and certification elements of the programme.
